Traditionally, the Planning & Economic Development Department's main role in economic development has been to administer grant monies to local groups who actively promote the County's tourism, agriculture and various community assets. More recently, the Department has become more directly involved in promoting economic development, working with local municipal partners.
Bruce County Economic Development Strategic Plan 2017 - 2021
Spruce the Bruce is one of the few regional programs in Downtown Improvement Programs found within the Province. The purpose is to undertake strategic initiatives aimed at revitalizing existing commercial areas or “downtowns”. Spruce the Bruce (STB) is a downtown improvement program created by the County of Bruce with its goal to enact positive change to support livable, economically viable communities. The STB program focuses on downtown cores-as Main Streets within Bruce County represent over 2/3rds of our commercial assessment and are main point of contact with tourism dollars. The STB Program has been initiated to assist communities with improvements that make them more attractive, pedestrian-friendly, and distinctive. STB offers expertise, policy development, design support and access to grants to support downtown revitalization projects. The Spruce the Bruce Team is here to help your local champions see the possibilities and create change in your downtown! Phone: 1-800-268-3838
Signage and Wayfinding Strategy There is a direct correlation between the effectiveness of a signage system and the satisfaction of individual tourists and groups travelling throughout the region. The Strategy will permit more visitors to enjoy the natural and cultural resources that our region offers by creating and promoting a consistent, user-friendly wayfinding system, to include signage, banners, kiosks, landmarking devises, informational maps, brochures and web site components.
