Welcome to the Bruce County Highways Department.
The Department administers a road system composed of 'collector and arterial' roads. The purpose of this system is to provide a consistent level of service between local urban, industrial, commercial and recreational centers. This distinguishes the County system from the local municipal road system that generally serves direct land access. The Department has approximately 650 km of road and approximately 148 bridges under its jurisdiction. In addition to the 124 bridges on County roads there are 24 bridges on local municipal roads. Please see the attached MAP under 'Reports/Downloads'

MUNICIPAL HAZARDOUS AND SPECIAL WASTE (MHSW) COLLECTION EVENTS
Hazardous materials are those that can catch fire, react or explode when mixed with other substances, if it’s corrosive, or if it is toxic. Improper disposal of many household products in drains, sewers, backyards or landfill sites, is not only hazardous to public health but also contaminates our water supply and other natural resources.
The County is pleased to offer the collection of Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste (MHSW) for it's residents for safe disposal and diversion from our local landfill sites.

Winter Maintenance Level of Service
The Bruce County Highways Department operates on a Level of Service Policy. The Department recognizes the Ontario Regulation 239/02 made under the Municipal Act entitled "Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways". This standard focuses on response time and a completion time for the winter maintenance activity. The County wishes to recognize a higher level of maintenance on Class 2 & 3 roads. This higher level of maintenance consists of an objective to reach a "center bare" surface condition, which is the attempt to attain a bare 2.5m center section of pavement within 24 hours after the end of a storm. The Level of Service for Class 4 roads is generally a snow packed condition within 24 hours after the end of a storm. For the purpose of winter maintenance, Bruce County roads are considered classified as described on the attached MAP under the "Reports/Downloads".
Please see PARKING NOTICE TO ALL BRUCE COUNTY RESIDENTS under "Reports/Dowloads".

A by-law to regulate the placing, erecting or altering of any gasoline pump and to regulate the displaying of any sign, notice or advertising device upon or adjacent to any road within the County road system has been passed by County Council.
