Bruce County Long Term Affordable Housing Strategy

As part of the implementation of the Bruce County Affordable Housing Strategy workshops were held recently with private developers, builders and planners to discuss the strategy and discuss their challenges and ideas to create more affordable rental and home ownership developments.

 The Bruce County Long Term Housing Strategy was approved on September 16, 2010 at the Social Services and Housing Committee.  To view the strategy click here.

This strategy will give direction to the Housing staff and its partners to create 445 affordable home ownership and rental homes over the next 10 years.

Rental/Supportive Component

35 affordable rental housing units have been built in the following municipalities under the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program.

1.  Miracle Place, Wiarton
Miracle Place is a 6 unit affordable housing development of one, two and three bedroom units in Wiarton.  Rent will be based on income and charged at 30% of gross monthly income plus utilities.  For more information to apply please contact the Bruce County Community Housing Registry at 519-396-3450 X 104 or 1-877-396-3450 X 104.

2. Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey
2nd stage housing developments are available in Saugeen Shores, South Bruce Peninsula and the Municipality of Kincardine for women and their families. 

3.  Ivings Place, Port Elgin, Ontario
Twelve one and two bedroom affordable housing units on Ivings Drive in Port Elgin.  For more information to apply please call 519-396-5062  

Bruce Peninsula Association For Community Living

Construction of 6 one bedroom units in Wiarton was completed in April 2008 with tenants moving in May 2008. See link below Bruce Peninsula Association for Community Living.

Housing Study Update 2008

New Release:

Bruce County has updated the Housing Study completed in 2005.  The updated report highlights the results of the 2006 census with emphasis on the changes in population and household characteristics, the existing housing stock, the ownership and rental housing markets and special housing needs.  There is a breakdown of this information for each of the municipalities in Bruce County.
