New Development

New Housing Development

Construction started in May 2010 for a new 36 unit housing development in Port Elgin at River and Wellington Street.  It is expected that construction will be complete in September 2011.

The development includes 28 one and two bedroom units in an apartment style two storey building.  There are 3 handicapped units for persons with physical disabilities.  The rent in these units will be set at an affordable rental amount of $521 for one bedroom and $590 for two bedroom units. Utilities will be extra.

In addition there will be 8 three and four bedroom units in a town home style building.  There will be 1 three bedroom handicapped unit for persons with physical disabilities.  The rents in these units will be geared to the tenant’s income of approximately 30% of gross monthly income.

On site will be a community room for meetings and also a small playground.  The development will be heated by a ground source geo-thermal system, energy efficient and the buildings will be non-smoking.

Funding for this development was received from the federal, provincial and county levels.  The land was donated by the Town of Saugeen Shores.

Grand opening will take place in August 2011.
