Bruce County Apologizes For Offensive Comments Made By Councillor Michi
Bruce County is aware of the audio clip that has been circulating online, which features offensive comments from South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Garry Michi. Mayor Michi is also a Bruce County Councillor; however, his comments do not reflect County Council’s, nor County Staff’s, position on capital projects and respectful relationship building. Bruce County will continue to review the situation.
Statement from Bruce County Warden Chris Peabody:
“Bruce County Council would like to sincerely apologize to the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, and to all First Nations communities across our nation, for these unacceptable and hurtful comments.
Bruce County is in full support of all federally-funded capital projects that support the Neyaashiinigmiing community, including projects that will ensure access to safe drinking water for all First Nations People across Canada.”
