Emergency Plans Help Families and Households Get Prepared

Are you prepared in the event of an emergency in Bruce County? Do you have a plan?

Are you prepared in the event of an emergency in Bruce County? Do you have a plan?

Hazards such as severe winter weather, tornadoes, or floods could quickly become an emergency. What would you do if you were unable to return to your home? Do you have a plan for your family and pets if you had to evacuate your home? What if you had to shelter in place for a significant period of time?

Bruce County Emergency Management encourages everyone to create an Emergency Plan that covers these possibilities. Having a plan for your family also helps First Responders prioritize those in need of emergency assistance, decreasing the strain on emergency resources. Being prepared helps you be a responsible community member.

Emergency Plans should include information such as:

  • Emergency contact numbers and information
  • School contact information
  • Household emergency exits and meeting places
  • Location of your emergency kit
  • Home utility directions
  • Medication and special health needs
  • Care for pets
  • Neighbourhood plan

Keep your emergency plan in a safe location and make sure all members of your family know how to locate it.

"Looking for something to do with your kids this March Break? Why not download our Children's Emergency Activity Brochure and create an Emergency Plan with them? Engage your children on how to keep your family safe in the event of an emergency or disaster that causes you to shelter in place or even evacuate your home!" says Ray Lux, Bruce County’s Emergency Management Coordinator.
