Joint Media Release: Bruce County Housing Corporation Purchases Site in Walkerton for New 40-Unit Development

1.5 acres of land located on Eastridge Road in Walkerton will be the future site of a 40-unit residential apartment-style development. The finalization of the purchase and sale between the Bruce County Housing Corporation (BCHC) and the Municipality of Brockton was part of the September 4, 2025, Bruce County Housing Corporation board meeting.
“This development will blend affordable and market-rate housing in a way that is both financially sustainable and socially inclusive. Our last build, the Penetangore Hub in Kincardine, is known for its welcoming atmosphere and innovative design. We’re proud to be able to carry those principles forward with this new build,” commented BCHC Chief Executive Officer and Bruce County’s Director of Human Services, Tina Metcalfe.
The acquisition marks a major milestone in the BCHC commitment to expanding community housing options. Planned to align with the existing developments in the area, the build will reflect a commitment to affordability, accessibility, and long-term sustainability.
“We are deeply grateful to the Municipality of Brockton for their generous contribution of land at a nominal cost,” said Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau. “It is reflective of their strong commitment to building affordable housing in our County.”
As part of the agreement, BCHC is collaborating with the Municipality of Brockton to plan and develop a new community-use playground. It will promote physical activity, encourage social interaction, and support the creation of a vibrant, inclusive neighbourhood where families can thrive.
“Community housing is more than just bricks and mortar,” said Municipality of Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody. “It’s a driver of economic growth. Projects like this help keep workers in the area, create jobs, and provide much-needed housing for those in our manufacturing, construction, and service sectors. They play a vital role in building long-term stability and supporting the healthy growth of our community.”
