Council endorses Action Plan developed by a cross-functional staff team for creating a thriving workplace

The Progressing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Across Bruce County Strategic Action Plan (2026-2028) focuses on efforts for collectively creating a workplace where people feel welcomed, supported, respected, and able to contribute meaningfully.

Bruce County Council’s endorsement of a new Strategic Action Plan builds on a commitment to create a welcoming, innovative, and thriving workplace. Progressing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Across Bruce County Strategic Action Plan (2026-2028) centers on strengthening internal policies, practices and culture as a foundation for long-term, sustainable organizational progress.

The Plan focuses first on efforts for collectively creating a workplace where people feel welcomed, supported, respected, and able to contribute meaningfully. 

“This is about creating a workplace where we lift each other up so we can all perform at our best,” said Jenn Robinson, director of human resources. “We’re starting by ensuring our internal practices are strong, consistent and aligned with our values as an employer of choice.”

The plan’s design builds on findings from organizational assessments and surveying, which an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Cross Functional Team used to guide development. Participants from the team will continue to lead efforts to achieve the actions within the two-year plan.

Bruce County’s Strategic Plan 2023-2026 and the Bruce County Saugeen Anishnaabek Reconciliation Pathway and Action Plan also intentionally align with EDI efforts.

“I’m proud that we are leading by example with this plan. The practical steps we are taking to ensure a positive, inclusive work culture at the County will result in better service for our community,” commented Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau.

Improvements to everyday practices and policies over the next two years will focus on four key areas:

  • Reporting and Accommodations Systems
  • Psychological Safety
  • Representation and Inclusive Recruitment
  • Equitable Performance Management

These are important first steps in Bruce County’s EDI journey. There’s also recognition that this is not a one-time initiative. 

“This is an ongoing process. To realize meaningful outcomes, we’ll need to listen carefully, reflect, learn and keep improving,” said Robinson. “We’re taking foundational steps which will inform our future. And we’re ensuring that Bruce County remains a workplace where everyone feels valued, included, and respected.”
