Joint Media Release - Grey and Bruce Counties appoint Public Board of Health members
Grey and Bruce Counties appointed members of Council to the Board of Health for the remainder of the Council term at their recent meetings. Grey County is appointing Shirley Keaveney, Dane Nielsen, Barbara Dobreen, and Scott Greig. Bruce County is appointing Rod Anderson, Ken Craig and Steve Hammell.
The terms of the previous Board members ended in February with the Counties and the Province of Ontario moving together into a renewal phase beginning with a jointly developed skills-based matrix.
The matrix, unanimously supported by both Councils, assesses skills relevant to governing the Board of Health. There’s no expectation for each member to have all skills, rather all members together will collectively share them. Additional training will help to continually build skills for good governance, strong oversight, and effective community relationships.
“These appointments will provide strong and effective leadership for public health in Grey and Bruce. We appreciate the commitment of our council members, both past and new, who choose to serve on the Board of Health,” said Andrea Matrosovs, Grey County Warden.
The County appointees follow the Province of Ontario’s appointment of two members, David Nusko and Chad Richards on March 12, 2026.
Grey and Bruce Counties continue to work closely with the Province, the Special Advisors to the Chief Medical Officer of Health and the staff at Grey Bruce Public Health.
“We remain committed to working with our partners at Grey County and the Ministry of Health,” commented Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau. “Our municipal representatives appointed today using the skills-based matrix are a positive step in the renewal and strengthening of our local Board of Health.”
The newly established Board of Health is set to have their first meeting this spring.
