Saugeen Anishnaabek Reconciliation Pathway and Action Plan Update
Council received the 2026 annual update on the Saugeen Anishnaabek Reconciliation Pathway and Action Plan, which outlines progress on the County’s commitments to truth and reconciliation.
The update followed a joint meeting held on July 31 with Bruce County, Saugeen First Nation, and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. The meeting continued the important government-to-government dialogue that supports the County’s distinction-based approach with the Saugeen Ojibway Nation.
Highlights from the update included development of the Engagement Circle, integration of the County’s Land Acknowledgement and new video, and continued Indigenous learning opportunities for County staff, Council members, students, and volunteers.
Housing Action Plan Update
Council received a bi-annual update on progress made through the Bruce County Housing Action Plan between January and June 2026. The plan, endorsed by Council in 2024, includes 25 actions across six areas of practice and is focused on increasing housing supply and impacting affordability across Bruce County.
In the first half of 2026, the Housing Cross-Functional team advanced work in research and monitoring, policy and regulation, community development programs, incentives, consultation and engagement, and education, communication and advocacy. This included developing ten-year housing targets, updating the Build in Bruce webpage with new resources, and supporting planning work that encourages a greater mix of housing types, densities and affordable units.
Several housing initiatives moved forward during Q1 and Q2. Housing Concierge staff responded to inquiries about affordable additional residential units and affordable housing development, including continued support for Bruce County’s first proposed tiny home development in Kincardine. Bruce County and the Municipality of Brockton also advanced the County’s first Tax Increment Equivalent Funding agreement to support 126 new rental housing units in Walkerton.
COAST Implementation Progress and Health Canada Emergency Treatment Fund Update
Bruce County Council received an update on the Community Outreach and Support Team, known as COAST, and the use of Health Canada Emergency Treatment Fund funding to date.
COAST is a mobile outreach initiative that connects vulnerable residents with health, housing, mental health, addictions, harm reduction, and social support services. The program is delivered in partnership by Bruce County Paramedic Services, Bruce County Human Services, and the Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce.
Outreach began the week of June 15. By July 22, COAST had recorded 323 interactions across 17 community locations, including planned outreach events, community meal locations, food banks, RAAM clinics, emergency shelter motels, and encampment locations.
