Bruce County Announces Completion of Durham Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Bruce County announces the successful completion of the Durham Street Rehabilitation Project, including Phase 2 of the Durham Street Bridge Rehabilitation. 

The Durham Street Bridge has reopened to two-way traffic. Both sidewalks on the bridge are also open, restoring full access for pedestrians and motorists. 

As part of the project's completion, all weight restrictions previously in place on the Durham Street Bridge have been lifted, and the Alternate Truck Route (ATR) has been removed. 

Located on Bruce Road 4 at the east end of Walkerton, the Durham Street Bridge spans the Saugeen River and serves as a critical transportation link on Bruce County's highest-volume roadway corridor between Walkerton and Hanover. Originally constructed in 1937, the bridge had exceeded the typical 75-year service life outlined in current Canadian bridge design standards, making rehabilitation necessary to ensure its continued safe and reliable operation. 

The project represents an important investment in County infrastructure, enhancing the safety, functionality, and long-term service life of the bridge and surrounding corridor while supporting the movement of residents, businesses, commercial traffic, and visitors throughout the region.
