Bruce County Human Services Quarterly Update – Q3 2025

Learn about key initiatives from Bruce County's Human Services department from Q3 2025.

In their Quarterly Update provided at the November 20 Bruce County Council Meeting, our Human Services department highlighted key initiatives that are helping residents with essential resources to enhance their wellbeing and strengthen our communities, from childcare and housing to financial assistance and community engagement programs.

In summary, recent actions include:

We helped provide residents with basic needs to improve their quality of life, strengthening our community through:

  • Approving 115 new child care spaces for South Bruce Peninsula, Huron-Kinloss, and Kincardine through the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care system.
  • Financial support to approximately 700 households receiving Ontario Works; of which 11% are now employed.
  • 746 community connections made across 76 Bruce County Outreach events for residents in need of housing, health and other essential supports.
  • Distributing 530 Good Food Boxes to help improve access to fresh vegetables and fruits.

We continue to invest in the economic well-being of residents by:

  • Providing $494,993 to residents in need of stability supports for housing, food and basic needs.
  • Making a $2.25 million investment in Bruce County Housing Corporation capital projects and improvements, including mechanical, electrical and energy efficiency upgrades to support existing community housing units.
  • Providing $433,255 in rent subsidies to residents living in private-sector housing.
  • Flowing $12.8 million in Canada-Ontario Early Learning and Child Care agreement (CWELCC) funds to licensed child care operations to support child care affordability.

We collaborate in the delivery of services to support transitions to sustainable employment and independence.

Together with YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce, Adult Learning Centres and Grey County Community Services, we are connecting residents to innovative pre-employment programs. These efforts help individuals build skills and confidence as they transition towards financial independence.

We remain committed to providing equitable, person-centered supports so every resident feels valued and included.
