Council received a report as well as a highlights document of CANHC’s actions from 2025 and the first half of 2026.
At CANHC’s 2026 Annual General Meeting, they set priorities to include regulatory process improvements, strengthen the role of municipalities in decision-making, and for securing long-term funding.
2026-2027 Housing and Homelessness Program Funding
Council received a report confirming the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing’s funding for several housing and homelessness programs for 2026/2027. Bruce County will receive funding through the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative (COCHI), the Ontario Priority Housing Initiative (OPHI), the Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP), and the Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB).
The COCHI funding will help maintain affordable housing, support housing providers, offer rent supplements, and improve housing options for residents. Through this funding, Bruce County will invest more than $900,000 in repairs, housing support services and rent supplements.
Bruce County will also receive $1.5 million through the Homelessness Prevention Program to help prevent and reduce homelessness. The County will use this funding for community outreach, emergency shelter solutions, housing assistance, supportive housing, and program administration.
In addition, the Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit will provide $152,000 to help an estimated 20 households achieve stable, long-term housing. Staff will submit investment plans to the province outlining how these funds will support local housing needs and program goals.
See the Housing and Homelessness Supports webpage for more information about services and programs.
