Bruce County Council Highlights for June 18, 2026
Bruce County Council met on Thursday, June 18, 2026. The complete agenda and video of the meeting are available on our Agendas and Minutes webpage.
These are highlights of the meeting:
Public Meeting for the Draft New Bruce County Official Plan
Bruce County Council held a public meeting and received comments from the public about the new Bruce County Official Plan.
Council provided direction to complete text and mapping refinements arising from public and interest-holder engagement, then for staff to bring the Plan back to a future meeting for consideration of adoption.
New Land Acknowledgement Video Release
Council received a report announcing the creation of the video Walking This Land Together – A Land Acknowledgement and Why it Matters.
This video is part of the continuation of Bruce County’s journey towards reconciliation with the Saugeen Anishnaabek. The video shares more about the County’s Land Acknowledgement. It also reflects Bruce County’s reconciliation journey and encourages viewers to reflect on and respect the lands on which we are located.
Development Charge Reduction Program
Council received a report for direction about the Province’s Development Charge Reduction Program (DCRP). The DCRP is a one-time competitive funding program encouraging municipalities to lower residential development charges for a three-year period. This is intended to help increase housing supply. In return, the federal and provincial governments may cover up to 90% of eligible approved infrastructure projects supporting housing growth.
If the County were to be successful in its application and receive funding, staff will return with by-law changes, details on reducing development charges by up to 50%, and requirements for the resulting county contribution.
Staff have identified existing plans and projects which may qualify, especially those tied to new housing. While there is no guarantee an application will be successful, the potential funding for moving forward infrastructure and key projects makes this a worthwhile pursuit.
Council directed that staff are to submit the application for the DCRP prior to the June 19, 2026, deadline.
