Joint Media Release: Update on fire at Bruce County Housing Corporation apartment in Kincardine
On Friday, October 9, 2026, a fire occurred in an apartment building located at 915 Huron Terrace in Kincardine, operated by Bruce County Housing Corporation.
The Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services Stations #11 and #12 with mutual aid assistance from the Ripley Station – Huron-Kinloss responded to the scene and successfully brought the fire under control. The Port Elgin Station provided back-up services. As a precaution, all tenants were safely evacuated. There are no reported injuries.
Staff from Bruce County and the Municipality of Kincardine worked in coordination with emergency responders, Victim Services Bruce Grey and the Canadian Red Cross to support tenants. All tenants have now found, or have been supported in securing, safe temporary accommodation. These agencies continue to work directly with tenants and local social service providers to address immediate needs and next steps.
Emergency officials have completed their work at the site and released the building back to Bruce County. Public access to the building remains restricted while restoration work is underway.
Bruce County has assumed care and control of the building following an investigation by the Fire Marshall’s office. Work has started to restore the property for the safe return of the tenants. The extent of the repairs required, and restoration timelines are still being determined.
For those interested in supporting tenants displaced by the fire, financial donations are the preferred way to help at this time. They provide the greatest flexibility to respond to tenants’ changing and individual needs. Donations can be made through the Victim Services Bruce Grey Compassion in Action Fund.
Any resident affected by the fire who requires assistance is encouraged to contact the Canadian Red Cross at 1-800-850-5090 and follow the prompts for the Kincardine Fire.
Bruce County and the Municipality of Kincardine extend their sincere thanks to the broader community for the generous support shown to tenants displaced by the fire. The assistance provided by residents, businesses, community organizations, local service providers, Victim Services Bruce Grey and the Canadian Red Cross has helped tenants access safe temporary accommodation and meet other immediate needs. Thanks, are also extended to Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services, Bruce County Paramedic Services, and the Ontario Provincial Police for their quick response.
