Joint Media Release: Transit service between Owen Sound and Wiarton returning September 1

Service on Grey Transit Route (GTR) 5 between Owen Sound and Wiarton is returning beginning September 1, 2026. The reinstated bus route will operate Monday to Friday and feature three daily round trips, including new early morning and evening travel options to better support riders’ needs.

Route 5 offers an affordable and convenient transportation option for residents travelling between Owen Sound, Shallow Lake, Hepworth and Wiarton, connecting riders to employment, medical appointments, shopping, education and other important destinations. 

A revised schedule includes three departures from the Owen Sound Transit Terminal each weekday at 6 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 8 p.m. Each trip will travel to Wiarton before returning southbound to Owen Sound. 

Single-trip fares are set at $5.00 for adults, $4.50 for seniors and students, and free for children five and under. A complete schedule with stop locations and additional service information is available on the Grey County website at www.grey.ca/GTR.

In addition to Route 5, the GTR also provides weekday service between Dundalk and Orangeville, and the Guelph Owen Sound Transportation (GOST) service provides daily service between Owen Sound and Guelph.

Current GTR and GOST service is part of the Bruce-Dufferin-Grey-Wellington Regional Transit Study project. This project focuses on improving regional mobility and expanding affordable transportation options for residents through the greater region. 

More information on the regional transit study will be presented to participating County Councils this fall.

The Bruce-Dufferin-Grey-Wellington Regional Transit Study project is funded through the Ontario Transit Investment Fund.
