Bruce County Human Services Quarterly Update – Q4 2025

In their Quarterly Update provided at the March 5, 2026, Bruce County Council Meeting, our Human Services department outlined how local services and supports are working together to meet growing community needs.  

The report showcases the department’s ongoing commitment to supporting the whole person by helping residents access: 

  • Safe, stable housing 
  • Financial security 
  • Quality child care 
  • Community-based supports 

 

Together, these initiatives strengthen well-being, promote inclusion, and help enhance quality of life across Bruce County. 

A summary of the report, highlighting achievements from January to December 2025 is below. 

 

Bruce County Human Services help residents with basic needs to improve their quality of life, strengthening our community.  

  • Flowing $40,567 to families through the Child Activity Assistance Program, allowing 123 children to participate in activities. 
  • Flowing financial support to approximately 714 households receiving Ontario Works; of which 13.5% are now employed. 
  • Supporting housing stability among individuals and families at risk of losing their residence through assistance with rental arrears, first or last month’s rent and moving expenses. 
  • Improving access to fresh vegetables and fruits through the distribution of 669 Good Food Boxes.    

 

Bruce County Human Services continues to invest in the well-being of residents.  

  • $646,490 provided to residents in need of stability supports for housing, food and basic needs.  
  • $660,000 in rent subsidies provided to residents within the low-income threshold to support cost of housing in the private rental market. 
  • $17.3 million in CWELCC Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) funds flowed to licensed child care operators to support child care affordability, inclusivity, accessibility and quality.  

 

Bruce County Human Services’ Dorrell Young Christmas Program marked a successful 2025 season, delivering holiday gifts and grocery support to families and children across the region.   

  • Supported 530 children and 255 families in need during the holiday season.  
  • Program raised $36,902 in monetary donations from 133 generous donors, sponsors and organizations. The program relies solely on the support of generous individuals and organizations in our community. The program celebrated 29 years of helping local families since its beginning in 1996.
