Breaking ground on new community housing development in Walkerton

Bruce County, community partners and leaders celebrated a major milestone on September 21, 2026, as they gathered to break ground on the new Eastridge Road Community Housing Development in Walkerton.

The project will create 41 new affordable homes and expand housing options for people at different stages of life. The $16.4 million development reflects Bruce County's commitment to increasing access to safe, quality housing while supporting the long-term growth and well-being of local communities.

"This project represents more than a new building," said Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau during the ceremony. "It represents opportunity, stability, and a stronger future for the people who call Bruce County and Brockton home."

Across Ontario and Canada, communities continue to face housing shortages. Workers, families, seniors, and young adults need housing options that meet their needs and fit their budgets. 

Access to housing plays an important role in building strong communities. When people can find homes near their workplaces, they can establish roots, support local businesses, and participate in community life.

The Eastridge development will help meet the housing needs of workers across a range of sectors, including health care, child care, skilled trades, service industries, and other essential sectors. It will also help strengthen the local workforce and support economic growth throughout Brockton and Bruce County.

The project reflects the value of strong partnerships and a shared commitment to addressing local housing needs. The Municipality of Brockton’s support and continued leadership are foundational in creating these new housing opportunities within the community. 

Bruce Power’s significant investment has played a vital role in advancing the development and helping to create more affordable housing options for residents, too.
