Bruce County Council Meeting

Bruce County Council approved:

  • a by-law to provide for the annual remuneration to be paid to the Warden and Members of Council of Bruce County for the Year 2023.
  • a by-law to designate Community Safety Zones on a portion of certain highways under the jurisdiction of the Bruce County Transportation & Environmental Services Department.
  • a by-law to adopt the budget and property tax estimates, tax ratios, and tax rates for the Year 2023.
  • that Warden Peabody, Councillor Michi, and Councillor Murray be appointed as representatives on the Clean Energy Frontier and that Councillor Michi serve as the Co-Chair of the Clean Energy Frontier. Report


Notice of Motion:

  • Council received a notice of motion that proposes to direct staff to prepare a response to the Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO) posting, entitled Independent Electricity System Operator's (IESO) Pathways to Decarbonization Study, to present to Council for approval prior to the May 14 deadline.   • Council received an update on the Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan by Coordinator Sarah Pelton. Presentation
  • Council received a presentation from United Housing For All - Homelessness Sub-Group, including Herb Schmid, Susan Brown, John Van Bastelaar, and June Van Bastelaar. Presentation

Corporate Services Committee

  • Committee approved that the 2023 County-wide tax ratios and class discounts be approved and that staff be directed to prepare the necessary tax rates and ratio by-law, that the tax relief program for charities and other similar organizations be continued for the 2023 taxation year, that that the tax relief program for low-income seniors and low-income persons with disabilities be continued for the 2023 taxation year, and that no Optional Property Classes are recommended.   • Committee approved that the revised Tangible Capital Asset Policy be approved as presented, effective January 1, 2023. Report
  • Committee approved that the revised Capital Asset Amortization Policy be approved as presented, effective January 1, 2023. Report
  • Committee approved that the capital spending overages outlined in the report for 2022 be allowed to be absorbed in the yearend surplus or deficit as they are immaterial in nature. Report

Information Technology Services Committee

  • Committee approved that the Infrastructure and Operations Manager will attend the 2023 HPE Aruba Atmosphere Training Week in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on April 23 to 28, 2023, for the estimated cost of $2,000. Report

Human Services Committee

  • Committee approved the Homelessness Resolution – A Call to the Provincial Government to End Homelessness in Ontario and directed staff to forward it to the Premier, Minister of Municipal Affairs and housing, the Minister of Children, Community, and Social Services, the Minister of Health, and to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.   • Committee approved that the items listed in the “Archival Items Recommended for Deaccession March 2023” be approved for deaccession from the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre’s collection. Report

Paramedic Services Committee

  • Committee approved that the 2023 budget be amended to include up to approximately $90,000 of funding from the Paramedic Services reserve to fund the Community Paramedicine High Intensity Supports at Home Program funded through Ontario Health West if required. Report
